The Fond du lac Post 75 Legion team won the Sheboygan Tournament this past weekend winning all 5 games of the tourney. Sunday saw the boys beating a quality Madison Impact team 9-5 for the title. " We wanted to play better teams this year and this was one of the ones we really wanted to play to see where we were at as a team. I guess we finally know we are a pretty good team. You don't get to 11-0 and beat both the reigning class AA and AAA state champs without talent, stated manager Tim Norton.
The game started Sunday not on the right foot. A single and a double to open the game scored Madison's first run. However, starter and winning pitcher Peyton Head settled down and really battled to get out of that first inning. "That was Huge there to only allow one run, and then we quickly responded with 2 big ones of our own after 2 outs, said Norton.
In the bottom half of the first a two out single by Reggie Hernandez was followed by a Josh Burg walk and then Austin Wagner laced a laser to the right field wall plating 2. The Post would add 3 more big runs in the second with the big blow coming off Reggie Hernandez triple to the right center gap.
The game settled down through the middle innings with Madison adding a run in the 4th to cut the lead to 3. However, Fondy exploded for 3 big runs in the 5th to put the game away. Rbis by Jason Schneider and Blake Bauer being the key blows. " We really hit the ball hard today, and we still don't have all our guys hitting yet. Its gonna be really fun when we get everyone going, but I liked what I saw today with the bats, we are getting there, added Norton.
The boys added another run in the 6th with an rbi hit by Josh Burg. Jack Cole finished the last 2 innings to preserve the win. The Fondy squad won 5 games in 4 days and really played a great weekend of baseball. With the win Post75 goes to 11-0 on the season. Up next this week is a busy schedule. Hortonville- Monday/ Neenah- Tuesday and New London- Wednesday. Then Fondy travels to Rochester MN for a 3 day 4 game tournament over the weekend.
